Pennmarva Young Cooperator Winners Named GETTYSBURG - The cream came to the top here last week, as more than 40 young dairy producers took part in Pennmarva Dairy Federation’s 16th annual Young Cooperator Convention at the Sheraton. Following three days of personal interviews, farm tours and fellowship, the four participating cooperatives announced winners in their individual contests during Friday’s wrap-up luncheon. The Double-D herd has a production average of 12,800 milk and 558 fat. Crops include com, alfalfa and rye, primarily for feeding of the milking herd and about 30 head of replacement animals. Runners-up in the Inter-State competition were William and Susan Schnebly, Clear Spring, Maryland. Their 125 Guernsey cattle and 250-acres at Crown Stone farm are operated in part nership with his brother. Production average on the 65 head of milking animals is at 14,087 milk and 667 fat. The cropping program includes com, alfalfa, barley, wheat and mixed hay. Other Inter-State finalists were Nevin and Audrey Mast, Oley, third place; Glen and Cathy Over, Williamsburg, fourth, and Carl Kreider, Onarryville, fifth. Maryland and Virginia’s win ners, Tracy and Janet Stiles, own a quarter of the family’s dairy and farming partnership. Their Clearbrook, Virginia, operation milks 210 head of purebred Jer seys, with a herd production average of 13,532, and crops 505 acres of ground. The Stiles have one son.
