New Simmental Programs Available
BOZEMAN, Mont. - The
American Simmental Association
is offering two new services geared
to assist breeders in planning their
breeding programs.
One service, entitled “Sire
Search,” is designed to aid
breeders in their quest for
potential sires that can help meet
their own herd improvement goals.
Breeders may designate the
criteria they want to see exhibited
in a bull. For example, they can
select one or more of the seven
production traits along with other
criteria such as age, polled or
horned status, country of origin, or
even the bull’s sire. The breeder
may also specify that the bulls he
is seeking must meet minimum

levels of performance.
After the bulls have been
selected, the breeder can move on
to the second phase of the new
program, the “Planned Mating
Service”. ASA will utilize the
previously selected sires to
calculate Expected Progeny
Differences (EPD’s) for
prospective calves that would
result from the mating to the
owners own cows. The process is
the same as that currently used by
ASA in processing calf crop
summaries.
