Him To Compete For Daily Princess Title
BY GINGER SECRIST MYERS
Adams County Correspondent
GETTYSBURG - Contestants
for the title of 1986 Adams County
Dairy Princess were feted to a tea
Sunday afternoon, June Ist, at the
home of reigning 1985 Adams
County dairy princess Jennifer
Hess.
The program included an
orientation to the contest
procedures by Nina Redding,
Adams County dairy promotion
committee member, and a
description of her activities as
dairy princess by Jenny Hess.
Three girls will compete for the
title in the county contest to be held
Saturday, June 14th, starting at 8
p.m. at the Biglerville High School
auditorium, Biglerville. The
contest will include a self
introduction, a radio promotional
spot, and an impromptu answer to
a selected question related to the
dairy industry by each contestant.
Contestants include;
Darlene Marie Brown, 18,
daughter of Marvin and Barbara
Brown, 1225 Georgetown Road,
Littlestown. Darlene will graduate
in early June from Littlestown
High School and plans to seek
employment immediately after
graduation. She helps on her
parents’ 338-acre dairy farm
where the principle crops grown
are corn, hay, wheat and soybeans.
Darlene owns two Holsteins. Her
activities include the 4-H dairy
club, goat club, and the 4-H Public
Speaking Contest at Penn State.
She also enjoys gardening and
crafts. Darlene says she would like
to be a dairy princess because she
enjoys working with people and
she would like the opportunity to
encourage young people to drink
more milk instead of sodas.
“I like to promote my product,”
says Josephine Hess, 200 Tall Oaks
Road, Gettysburg, as her reason
Thanks!...

for seeking the dairy princess
crown this year. Josie, 17, is the
daughter of John and Bonnie Hess
and is very involved in the family
farm operation which includes 150
milking Holsteins and 700 acres of
crops.
A junior at the New Oxford High
School, Josie plans to attend Penn
State after graduation to major in
dairy science. Her school and
community activities include FFA,
4-H and firls field hockey. In her
spare time, Josie likes to show
cows, ride three-wheelers, and
work with computers.
Jennifer Kay Weimer, 18,
daughter of Stanley and Rose
Weimer, 2230 Oxford Road, New
Oxford, is headed for Penn State
this fall where she will pursue in
agri-business major with a dairy
promotion minor. No stranger to
cow circles, Jenny has been very
active in 4-H, FFA, and the Penn
sylvania Junior Holstein
Association showing cattle from
her family’s 80-cow Holstein herd.
In school she is a member of the
student council and girls field
hockey team, and received the
alternate award for the New Ox
ford Outstanding teenager. Jen
nifer enjoys judging and showing
dairy cattle, playing field hockey,
and spending time with her family
and friends. Jennifer says she
would like to be crowned the 1986
Adams County Dairy Princess
because it has always been one of
her dreams and she thinks it would
be an honor to promote milk and
the dairy industry.
1985 Adams County dairy
princess Jenny Hess ranked her
visits to the elementary classes to
promote milk as her most enoyable
experience as a dairy princess.
Her advise to this year’s contest
winner is to just relax, be yourself,
and always be prepared to
promote the product.
