Omaha Weekly
Thursday, June 5
Report Supplied by USDA
Slaughter steer and heifer prices
turned sharply lower, registering
declines of 2.50-3.00 for the week. A
declining and sluggish carcass and
boxed beef trade was primary
factor in the decline. At country
points in Nebraska, steer and
heifer prices turned lower. A
heavy cattle slaughter under
federal inspection was another
burdensome factor on the market.
Slaughter cows closed steady to
firm and bulls firm to 1.00 higher.
Estimated 5 day receipts this
week 9,400 compared to 4 day
actuals last week shortened by
Memorial Day holiday, 5,369 and
actual 5 day receipts this week last
year 9,708. Slaughter steers ac
counted for 47 percent of the weeks
receipts, slaughter heifers 37
percent, slaughter cows 2 percent
and feeder cattle 12 percent.
