Don Kay Hettinger is Centre County's New Dairy Princess
senior at Penns Valley High
School. She is a member of the
National Honor Society, Drama
and Aerobics Clubs and yearbook
staff. She also belongs to the
Rebersburg United Methodist
Youth Group. Designing gowns,
singing, ballroom dancing and
teaching herself American sign
language, along with helping on
the family’s dairy farm keep her
busy.
After she graduates in June,
Dora Kay plans to work for a year
before pursuing a college degree in
education of the deaf.

Centre County’s alternate dairy
princess is Joy Gates of Warriors
Mark. The daughter of Arva and
Dorothy Gates is a senior at State
College High School. She is vice
president of FHA and a member of
FFA. Joy is also active in the
Gatesburg 4-H Club, Centre County
Dairy Club, Centre County 4-H
Council and is Sunday school
secretary for Ross United
Methodist Church.
Joy regularly shows Holsteins
from her family’s farm and has
competed at the state level twice.
She hopes to have her own dairy
Boyer Elected Jr, Holstein President
YORK Bridgette Boyer,
Biesecker Road, has been named
president of the York County
Junior Holstein Association
following the group’s recent
reorganization and election.
Assisting her sister, as vice
president, is Jenelle Boyer. Angie
Lang, Glen Rock, is secretary
treasurer. News reporter is Rich
Bupp, Seven Valleys.
Junior Holstein members have
been invited to participate in a
clipping workshop on June 21,
hosted by the York Central Dairy
4-H Club. The workshop will be
held at the Rodman Thompson
farm, East Berlin, from 9:30 a.m.
to 2:30 p.m., with lunch provided.

The third contestant, Tammy
McTavish was named second
alternate. She is the daughter of
Darlene McTavish and a junior at
State College High School.
Beth Heald, 1985 Centre County
dairy princess and present Penn
sylvania state dairy princess,
crowned her successor. She spoke
to the contestants about her ex
periences during the past year and
thanked the Centre County dairy
farmers for the opportunities she
had to represent them at county,
state and national events.
Noted Berks County Holstein
breeder Jim Shaw is lined up to
lead the clipping workshop, with
both individual and group in
struction on the fine points of
clipping show heifers. Participants
are asked to bring their own
equipment, including clippers,
extension cords and brushes.

York Junior Holstein club will
host the annual regional Junior
Holstein Judging School,
scheduled for July 14 and 15, with
headquarters at the Ramada Inn,
York.
