Market Comment; Prices were
firm and trending higher for next
week’s bookings. Despire the firm
market tone, sentiment was
generally steady, as costs of spent
hens in relation to current trending
prices on finished product, was
making further processing
prohibitive. Offerings were
adequate for the generally lighter
schedules and trading continued
very competitive. The demand for
canner pack was slow to just fair.

unchanged. Cartoned egg
movement was mixed in a range of
light to fairly good and best where
spotty retail featuring was a
factor. Supplies and offerings of
large and heavier weight eggs
were adequate to closely cleared.
Mediums were adequate or
available but getting into better
balance. The undertone was
generally steady to fully steady.

Slaughter steer and heifer prices
trended 1.00-fully 1.50 higher this
week. Buyer demand proved ex
cellent throughout the session,
bolstered by advances in wholesale
beef realizations.

factor in the pricing mechanism;
as in many cases, buyers were
willing to overlook good grades
(discounted 2.00-3.00 in the meat
trade), in order to avoid YG 4 and
steers weighing 1300 lbs. and up,
still finding a narrowed outlet.
Slaughter cows 1.50-2.50 higher.
Bulls fully steady.
Estimated 5 day receipts 8900;
actuals last week 8504 and last
year 7687. Steers comprised 51
percent of the week’s receipts;
Heifers 40 percent; cows 7 per
cent; feeders 1 percent.
