    NEWARK, Del. - Cooperative
Extension’s national 4-H youth
committee has established a
college scholarship fund to
recognize and further the
education of worthy current or
former 4-H members. Each
scholarship is directly related to
the National 4-H Awards Program,
so outstanding achievement in this
program is a prerequisite.
Qualified Delaware 4-H’ers and
former 4-H’ers are eligible to
compete for the following national
scholarships.
• Two $l,OOO 4-H career
scholarships sponsored by Who’s
Who Among American High School
Students. Scholarships are
available to incoming freshmen
SPARTANSBURG - Lesa
Kimball, Kimball Road, Watt
sburg, was named the 1986 North
west Maple Queen at the fifth
annual contest May 3 at Dutch
Treat Restaurant, Spartansburg.
Lesa is the 18-year-old daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Burton J. Kimball,
who have been involved in the
production of maple syrup since
1977.
Lesa graduated from Seneca
High School in June 1985. While in

Lesa Kimball
school she was a member of the
Seneca Concert Band, a majorette
in the marching band for four
years and an honor student. At
present she is working at Pizza Hut
in Union City. In addition to being
active in the family maple
operation, her hobbies are knit
ting, sewing, needle point, latch
hook, painting, softball and
volleyball.

the 1985 N.W. maple queen
presented Lesa Kimball with the
Conrad Weiser FFA
Kirk Sattazahn, a member of the
Conrad Weiser FFA Chapter, took
first place in the FFA Creed
Contest during the Area Public
Speaking Contest held recently at
the Berks County Intermediate
Unit,
Brenda McFarland, another
Conrad Weiser student, was
second, while fellow student Karen
plates and silverware.

Weiser FFA Chapter also par
ticipated in the Area
Parliamentary Procedure Contest.
Team members were: Dave
Wolfskill, Dave Musser, Kirk
Sattazahn, Becky Sonnen, Kay
Fessler, Karen Fessler, Jim Blatt
and Troy Small. They placed
fourth in the contest.

Careers. Candidates must have
successfully completed 45 quarter
or 30 semester hours at an ac
credited college or university and
must be available to enroll at Tobe-
Cobum within the year. They must
be able to adapt to an urban en
vironment, meet the balance of
their financial expenses and
submit a brief essay on “Why I
Want a Career in the Fashion
Industry.” The recipient must
intend to pursue studies in the
fashion industry in order to
prepare for a fashion-related
career.
• Two $l,OOO rabbit project
scholarships sponsored by the
American Rabbit Breeders
Association, Inc. Available to high
school seniors or college freshmen
who have completed one year of 4-
H work on a rabbit project and who
plan to study agriculture, home
economics or a closely related
field.
• Two $l,OOO 4-H veterinary
medicine scholarships sponsored
by Champion Valley Farms, Inc.
Available to candidates now
enrolled in one of the 28 U.S.
colleges offering a veterinary
medicine curriculum.
• Six $l,OOO career scholarships
sponsored by the Gertrude L.
Warren Scholarship Fund. Ap
plicants must be a college fresh
men who show evidence of 4-H
influence on their future career
choice and who are enrolled in any
field of study in an accredited
college or university.
Delaware youth wishing to apply
for any of these scholarships may
obtain further information and
application forms from the county
extension office in Newark (451-
8965), Dover (737-1448) or
Georgetown (856-7303) or from
state 4-H leader Marcius But
terfield (451-2509). Applications
must be approved by him and
submitted to the National 4-H
Council by Oct. 1.
