NJ FFA to Hold Annual Convention
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - The
New Jersey FFA is celebrating its
57th Annual State Convention May
15 to 17 at Loree Auditorium, Cook
College, Rutgers University, New
Brunswick. During the three-day
convention vocational
agricultural/FFA members
gather to be honored with awards
for achievements through the year
as well as to conduct business of
the Association.
This year the National FFA
president, Rick Malir, will be
present to encourage members
and guests to achieve their goals.
Honorable Raymond J. Zane, State
Senator, will be this year’s con
vention speaker.
Two official delegates from each
of the 41 State FFA Chapters will
represent their membership to
vote on business at the convention.
Key issues for the 1986 convention
will be making constitutional
changes, setting events and dates
for activities, setting of dues and
contest fees, and electing 1986-87
State Officers.

include safety awards, community
service (Building Our American
Communities), superior chapter
and a most improved chapter
awards. This year an award will be
presented to the FFA Chapter
raising the most money for the
refurbishment of the Statue of
Liberty.
The highest state FFA degree,
Garden State FFA Degree, will be
presented to 25 FFA members who
have qualified because of their
leadership and occupational
achievement. Over $5,000 in
awards will be distributed to FFA
members through the New Jersey
FFA Foundation, National
Foundation and FFA Association.
Money is donated to the foun
dations by individuals and
business and industry who support
youth in agriculture.
In addition to student
recognition, several adults and
groups will be cited for their
service to the FFA. Four adults
will receive the Honorary Garden
State FFA Degree and two groups
will be presented a Distinguished
Service Citation.
Contests in tractor driving,
public speaking, parliamentary
procedme and demonstrations will
also be conducted at the con
vention. The State Alumni
Association and H.O. Sampson
Collegiate FFA Chapter (Cook
College) will be sponsoring two
social events at the conventions.
On Thursday, Collegiate FFA
members will be holding the first
annual FFA lip Sync Contest for
FFA members. Friday night’s
activities include a dance spon
sored by the State Alumni
Association.
