USDA initiated the.testing of school-lunch ground beef and some commercial beef products after the Food and Drug Administration discovered heptachlor in milk from dairy herds in Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. “The results indicate that consumers need not be concerned that meat products destined for use in the National School Lunch Program are contaminated,” said Donald L. Houston, administrator of USDA’s Food Safety and In spection Service.
