ROARING SPRING - Laurie
Smith of Martinsburg R 2 was
crowned Blair County dairy
princess April 25 during the annual
pageant at the Spring Cove Junior
High School.
Laurie, the daughter of Dennis
and Margaret Smith, received her
crown from 1985 princess Sheila
Biddle.
During the event, contestants
were asked questions to test their
knowledge of the dairy industry.
Laurie was asked: “How do you
persuade a football player who
thinks milk is for sissies that it is
good for him?”
Laurie responded that it takes a
big person to stand up to the crowd
who is drinking soda pop and to be
different by drinking milk. She
would also tell him to look at the
many major league athletes who
drink milk.
Laurie is a junior at Central High
School, where she is involved in the
Girl’s Athletic Association, Con
cert Chorus, Health Careers Club
and National Honor Society. She is
a member of St. Matthew’s
Lutheran Church.
Laurie lives with her parents on
the family’s 200-acre dairy farm
and helps milk the 59 Holsteins.
Jenny Bigelow, Williamsburg,
was named alternate princess. She
is the daughter of William and
June Bigelow. Jenny is a junior at
Huntingdon Christian Academy,
where she is a member of the
volleyball and basketball teams.
She plays the piano and organ at
the Calvary Bible Church.
