The Solanco Chapter recognized Dr. Carl Troop DVM, Quarryville, for his contributions and support of the Young Farmer program. Dr. Troop received an engraved plague in appreciation of his ef forts. Samuel Click, Quarryville, received the active member award. Randy Clark, Quarryville, was named the Outstanding Young Farmer Under 30, and P. Robert Wenger was selected as the Out standing Young Farmer Over 30. The following dairy production awards were presented: High Holstein Herd, Robert Kauffman Jr., Peach Bottom, 20,266 pounds of milk and 765 pounds of fat. Kauffman also had the high cow for milk and high cow for butterfat with 29,128 pounds and 1131 pounds respectively. Lancaster Fanning, Saturday, April 12,1986- High Jersey Herd, Jay Marvin Herr, Holtwood, 13,437 pounds of milk and 650 pounds of fat. Herr’s cows with 18,120 pounds of milk and 849 pounds of butterfat also took top honors in the Jersey breed. High Guernsey Herd, Lindenhof Farm, Oxford, 15,192 pounds of milk and 707 pounds of fat. The high Guernsey for milk with 15,192 pounds and the high cow for but terfat with 980 pounds was also owned by Lindenhof Farm. The Most Improved Herd award was presented to Graywood Farms, Peach Bottom. Their production increased, 1641 pounds of milk and 61 pounds of fat from the previous year. A variety of items are needed, (excluding clothing), in any of the following categories: household goods, appliances, antiques, collectibles, sporting goods, York County extension seeks gardeners YORK - Hobby gardeners with lots of experience to share with others could be master gardeners. That’s right. The York County Extension Service is looking for experienced gardeners willing to train for master gardening cer tification. Trained gardeners will be required to volunteer no less than 30 hours of Extension horticultural production contest: Dale Peifer, Kirkwood, produced 164 bushfels of shelled corn per acre to win the corn grain division. Walter Pownall, Quarryville, was second with 160 bushels, and E. Edwin Hamish, Christiana, was third with 156 bushels. Walter Pownall received the trophy for the highest grain yield average for the past three years with 174 bushels. In the corn silage division, Larry Aaron, Quarryville, placed first with 26.5 tons per acre of 65% moisture silage. Karl Herr, Kirkwood, was second with 25.4 tons per acre and Walter Pownall’s 25.0 tons per acre was third.
