The winner of the dairy princess
pageant, to be held May 3, at 7 p.m.
in the Berks County Ag Center
Auditorium will be eligible to
compete at the state level, for the
title of Pennsylvania Dairy
Princess.
Twenty-nine state princesses
and hundreds of county princesses
have served as spokespersons for
the dairy industry in Pennsylvania
over the last thirty years. They
appear in shopping malls, fairs,
supermarkets and on radio and
television to educate consumers
about the dairy farmers products.
Any single woman who has
completed her junior year in high
school, is not over 24 years of age,
never married and whose parents
or guardians are engaged in dairy
farming is eligible to compete for
the title. A young lady is also
eligible if she, herself, is a full-time
employee on an operating dairy
farm or owns at least two dairy
animals in a 4-H or FFA project
prior to May 1,1986.

UNIVERSITY PARK - The
Penn State Ag Student Council is
sponsoring a panel discussion on
the 1985 Farm Bill on April 1. The
discussion, part of the council’s
coffeehouse program, will be held
in room 112 Kern Building, at the
University Park campus, at 7:30
p.m. The public is invited.
Panel members include Richard
Grubb, Pennsylvania’s Secretary
of Agriculture; Charles Wismer,
state Grange Master; Gene
Thompson, Pennsylvania
executive director of The U.S.D.A.
Agricultural Stabilization and
Conservation Service; and Jill
Findeis, assistant professor of
agricultural economics at Penn
State. Milton Hallberg, professor
of agricultural economics, will
moderate.
Dr. Grubb will answer questions
about the impact of the Farm Bill

Dairy Princess Pageant receives a
$5OO. cash award. The first and
second runner-up will receive a
$3OO and $2OO cash award
respectively. The state title is
honorary and would not interrupt
school or regular employment
plans. The State Pageant is
coordinated through Pennsylvania
Dairy Princess & Promotion
Services, Inc.
The Berks County Committee is
also looking for little girls, ages
three to five, whose parents are
involved in dairy farming in Berks
County to compete for the title of
LiT Miss Berks County Dairy
Princess. A winner will be chosen
by the audience during the Berks
County Dairy Princess Pageant on
May 3rd. This little girl will also be
asked to make several promotional
appearances during the coming
year.

interested in entering the Berks
County Dairy Princess and the Li’l
Miss Dairy Princess Pageant

Wismer, a dairy fanner from
Montgomery County, will discuss
the development of the bill and his
organization’s position on the bill.
He is also the state lobbyist for the
state Grange.
Thompson will present
U.S.D.A.’s view on the Farm Bill,
and how the bill will be im
plemented in Pennsylvania.
Findeis has studied agricultural
farm policy, and will discuss the
economic implications of the Farm
Bill.
A question and answer period
will follow and refreshments will
be provided by Ag Student Council.
