HARRISBURG - George Wolff,
a Lebanon County farmer and
conservationist, has received
national recognition from two
conservation organizations for his
work to preserve and protect the
Chesapeake Bay, Lt. Gov. William
DOYLESTOWN - A-Day,
Delaware Valley College’s two-day
annual open house, will be held
rain or shine Saturday and Sunday,
Arpil 26 and 27 from 9:00 a.m. to 5
p.m. Admission to this agricultural
and science exposition is free.
The New Britain Township
campus attracts thousands of
visitors each spring to the popular
central Bucks County college fair.
There are activities and displays
for every member of the family,
presented under the huge, old trees
or on the broad stretches of lawn at
the 90-year-old college.
In addition, a country fair at
mosphere prevails for the
weekend. Visitors can enjoy old
fashioned contests in log-sawing,
canoe-jousting on Lake Archer,
pie-eating and a milking com
petition. A chicken barbeque, art
show, music concerts and special
children’s attractions are all part
of this 38th A-Day.

Other events showcase the
Animal Science department, in
cluding a horse show; display and
judging of various animals such as
beef and dairy cattle, sheep and
swine; a “petting zoo,” and hay
rides and pony rides.
An extensive flower and garden
show complements the springtime
beauty of the campus itself. The
Ornamental Horticulture
department is responsible for the
exhibit of floral arrangements and
seasonal displays. Many types of
plants for the spring garden will be
on sale during the weekend.
Greenhouses and the herb garden
will be open for visitors to browse
through at their leisure.
The apiary exhibit presents not
only the honey-making process;
Delaware Valley College’s honey
products will also be on sale.

for tours and will feature displays
in Biology, Chemistry, Food
Science, Business Administration,
Agronomy and Horticulture.
A-Day is an opportunity to enjoy
on a spring weekend every aspect
of Central Bucks’ only college
campus. All events will be held on
the campus, Route 202, one mile
west of Doylestown.
A parking fee of $1 also covers
the cost of the program, which
includes a map of the campus and

Scranton said. “His efforts in
working with environmental and
agricultural groups have resulted
in strong participation by these
organizations to develop strategies
to reduce excess nutrients and
sediment from entering the Bay.”
At the First Annual Chesapeake
Bay Conservation Awards, held
last month in Washington, D.C..
Wolff received the Agriculture
Award from Izaak Walton League
for his efforts to reduce runoff
from agricultural land in the
Chesapeake Bay drainage basin.
In Nashville, earlier this year,
Wolff was honored by the National
Association of Conservation
District Directors with a Special
Recognition Award to recognize
his outstanding contributions to
conservation programs,
specifically his efforts in the
Chesapeake Bay cleanup.

expertise and leadership in
agriculture and conservation,
Wolff served on the first En
vironmental Protection Agency
task force to develop a policy and
strategy on non-point source
pollution. He represented the
Commonwealth on the Citizens
Advisory Committee to the
Chesapeake Bay Executive
Council and was recently ap
pointed as one of seven Penn
sylvania representatives to the
Chesapeake Bay Commission.

organization representing the
interests of more than 3,000 con
servation districts in the U.S.,
which support and implement a
variety of state and federal natural
resource conservation programs.
