There are two ringrnecked pheasants that roam around our house and through our brown garden everyday. Yesterday I saw 30 wild geese on the river in front of our house and our own white geese are starting to nest. I’ve been using the first eggs in cakes and custards as it is a bit early to start goslings. My tulips and hyacinths are several inches high on a southern slope and even the poppies are sending up fuzzy green leaves. I’ve forced some forsythia and pussy willow branches and put them on the kitchen counter. And, scattered around my yard are twigs and small branches from the walnut and persimmon trees. However, the weather will have to get a bit warmer before I am en ticed to go out and rake the whole yard again. Whenever I go outside my tiger cat is always at my feet. She Chester County seeks dairy princess candidates GAP Chester County has begun its annual search for dairy princess candidates, who will compete during a contest on May 31. All single young women between the ages of 16 and 22 who have a dairy farm background are eligible to compete for the title of 1906 Chester County Dairy prin cess. Contestants must be the daughter of a dairy farmer in Chester County or own at least one dairy animal herself. She must have completed her junior year in high school and will not turn 22 before Dec. 31. The dairy princess will be selected by a panel of three judges. ~ rv /./ follows me into the cellar when I fill the Furnace with coal and she sits on the kitchen windowsill every morning and begs for food. We cannot understand what happened to our two Manx cats as they simply disappeared. One was black and white and the next generation was a bright orange. Maybe a hunter shot them since they did roam through our woodland. As I write this, workmen are pounding away in our bathroom as they lay new linoleum. We are expecting house guests and a torn up floor would not be a nice welcome. I’m certainly hoping that another pipe doesn’t spring a leak in the near future. Even though there are signs of spring here in Lancaster County, I’m sincerely expecting that spring will be in full swing in New Orleans. That is where I expect to be when you read this article. You’ll hear more about my Southern Tour later. The judges base their decisions on appearance, speaking ability, poise, personality and knowledge of the dairy industry. She must also present a three to five minute presentation promoting dairy products. The winner of the Chester County contest will attend a training seminar July 8 to 10 and compete in the state dairy princess pageant in Harrisburg, Sept. 18 through 20. Young women interested in entering the Chester County pageant should contact Charlene Ranch at 442-9006, Cathy Guest at 215-469-6627; or George Lambom, 215-932-3305 before April 30.
