A sluggish dressed beef market
and lower prices paid at direct
points were dominant factors in
the downturns. Slaughter cows
steady to 1.00 lower. Slaughter
bulls steady.
Estimated 5 day receipts of
cattle this week 6,500 compared to
actuals of 5,454 last week and 8,017
last year Slaughter steers ac
counting for 43 percent of receipts
this week, Slaughter Heifers 44
percent, Slaughter Cows 9 percent
and Feeder Cattle 2 percent.

Slaughter Steers and Heifers
closed 1.00-1.50 lower. Receipts
light with upper portion of choice
grade not well tested. Buyers
generally cautious and selective.
Declines m wholesale beef prices
precipitated the drop in the live
cattle market. Cattle continue to
carry moderate amounts of mud.
Slaughter Cows closed weak to 2.00
lower. Bulls steady to firm. Supply
mainly good to low Choice
Slaughter Steers and Heifers with
12% cows. Estimated receipts 900,
compared with actual receipts of
1069 last week and 1462 a year ago.
