Grain drying meeting scheduled in Lancaster LANCASTER - Area farmers will have a chance to learn ways to increase their profits in com production when grain experts gather in Lancaster on March 7. The Grain Drying Conference, sponsored by Pennsylvania Power & Light Co. and the Pennsylvania Cooperative Extension Service, Southeast Region, will be held CREAMERY - Bill Hayes, longtime agronomist with the Soil' Conservation Service Mid-West Region will speak at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 26, at the 4H Center in Creamery. Mr. Hayes is a nationally recognized expert on ridge tillage farming and is the author of “Minimum Tillage Farming” and “No-Tillage Farm ing”. The main speaker will be Bruce McKenzie, professor of Agricultural Engineering at Purdue University, who will speak on energy-efficient drying of shelled corn and proper Hayes to speak on ridge tillage the Montgomery Conservation District. The course will be opened to all farmers and individuals interested in hearing Mr. Hayes for that evening only. “Montgomery County farmers have widely adopted No-Till Farming” according to Bill Steuteville, Course instructor. Jon Carson, assistant professor of Agricultural Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University, will address the group on drying conditions in Pennsylvania, and he’ll talk aboitt safety. Farmers interested in new markets for high-quality corn will benefit from a panel of local com buyers who will describe their quality requirements. Panel members include representatives of a pet food company, a com chip maker and a grain merchant. The conference costs $5, which includes lunch. Registration for the conference should be made by Feb. 28. Forms can be obtained from county Cooperative Ex tension Service offices in southeastern Pennsylvania. Dauphin Co. to hold Ag Center benefit auction HARRISBURG - Commitments for consigned or donated items are now being accepted for Dauphin County’s second annual Ag Center Consignment Auction scheduled for April 5, at the Grate Fairgrounds.
