Slaughter Steer and Heifer
prices fell sharply at midweek,
ending the period 1.50-2.00 below
last week’s dose. A large country
movement along with broad
declines in wholesale beef levels
precipitated the downturn. Overall
finish continued fairly attractive,
while numbers of ‘muddy’ cattle
some what increased. Slaughter
cows 1.50-2.00 higher. Bulls fully
steady.
Estimated 5 day receipts 5600;
actuals last week 5953; last year
6736. Steers comprised 42 percent
of week’s receipts; heifers 42
percent cows 10 percent, feeders 5
percent.
SLAUGHTER STEERS: At the
close, few choice 24 1100-1350 lbs.
56.00, upper range of choice grade
not tested. Few mixed good and
choice 2-3 1050-1200 lbs. 55.00-56.00.
SLAUGHTER HEIFERS-
