He also reported that for the
entire year Inter-State paid out
quality premiums totaling
1436,000, to an average of 755
members per month last year.
This is paid at a rate of .07 cents
per hundredweight.
Dr. Paul E. Hand, secretary and
general manager of Inter-State,
was the day’s speaker. He outlined
the new dairy bill and how it
pertains to the members.
The basic philosophy behind the
bill is to reduce the surplus by 12
billion pounds, and reorient the
milk prices to a market price
program.
Dr. Hand pointed out that Inter-
State serves as a marketing
organization for its members. It
offers no suggestions as to who
should enter into the buyout
program or who should not. He
stated that it is the individual
decision of each farmer which is
also a long range, involved
decision.
Reports were also given on the
annual meeting by delegate Fred
Crider. Robert Peifer presented
the activities for the young
cooperators during the past year
and plans for the coming year.
