Pennsylvania Farm Show displays the best of almost every
commodity in the state. Here is the “Court of Champions,"
displaying all the first apple entries.
Safety Workshop sot fa Com,
Soybean Conference
NEWARK, Del. - This year’s
Delmarva Corn and Soybean
Technology Conference has a new
twist. A special workshop for farm
wives is planned from 10:30 a.m. to
12 p.m. The workshop will run
concurrently with other activities
during the day-long event, which
takes place Wednesday, Feb. 5, at
the Wicomico Youth and Civic
Center in Salisbury, Md.
Because farm wives play a
major role in accident prevention
on farms, the theme of the
workshop is safety. The following
topics will be discussed;
• Dealing with farm machinery
accidents-what to do when you’re
faced with this type of emergency.
• Recognizing symptoms of
pesticide poisoning; also, how to
prevent pesticide exposure
through adequate personal

The Pennsylvania State Grange
Deaf Activities Committee
presented a check for $3OO to
Elwyn Institute at a recent
meeting of Chester-Delaware
Pomona Grange #3. Committee
member Betsy Huber of Goshen
Grange made the presentation to
Robin Cooke, deaf and hearing
impaired coordinator at the In
stitute, for the purchase of two
TDD’s.
A TDD is a telecommunications
device into which a student can
type a message. The TDD tran
slates the signal to an electronic
impulse, which travels by
telephone to a similar machine
that prints the message. One of the
TDD’s to be purchased by the
Institute will print in large type.
The Grange participates at all
levels in various programs for the
deaf and hearing impaired. The
Grange was the first national
organization to develop and
distribute a songbook in sign
language.

Educational Packet is available
free of charge to fourth, fifth and
Lancaster County Pomona
Grange 71 held their regular
meeting Jan. 18, at the Leaman
Place-Paradise Fire Hall. The
meeting was preceded by a
covered dish dinner with Pequea
Valley Grange 2078 hosting.
Pomona Master, Clifford W.
Holloway Jr., presided at the
business session when reports of
the Pa. State Grange meeting held
at Warren, Pa. were given •by
several who attended. Also reports
from the Pa. Farm Show were
given and some of the officers gave
reports.
