CATTLE: Slaughter steer and
heifer prices drifted downward
through the week, with closing
levels standing a full 1.00 lower
than a week ago. Lower wholesale
beef prices, liberal slaughter rates
and a sluggish boxed beef trade all
were contributing factors in the
decline. Overall finish proved just
ordinary, while some increase
noted in numbers of muddy cattle.
Slaughter cows 1.50-2.00 higher.
Bulls fully steady.
Estimated 5 day receipts 5900,
actuals last week 5693 and last
year 7145. Steers comprised 44 pet
of the week’s receipts; heifers 40
pet., cows 11 pet., feeders 4 pet.
