McCLURE - For 1985, Vivian
Mowery received a 4-H diamond
pin, after 20 years of dedicated
service as a volunteer leader.
“I 'got started in 4-H, after
someone asked me to be a leader
for flower gardening, in the local
Decatur club.” She has been in it
ever since.
“I just love the kids. I get more
enjoyment out of them every year.
It’s just great to see the gleam in
their eyes, when they have ac
complished a new skill. I think it’s
important that we teach kids to be
self-sufficient, and to have prin
ciples and values. The overall
growth and development of each
member is the most important
thing. It’s great to see them
mature and grow.”
“We meet in the old Belltown
school right now, from early spring

chuckle.
On a more serious note, she
stated that “our building is in sad
need of repairs. It’s not always
occupied and vandals have done
some damage. Occasionally, we
find a mouse or snake in there.
They come through holes in the
walls. We’d like to make it a
special club project to raise repair
money to fix the old schoolhouse
up. With repairs, the building could
be heated. Then, the club could
meet in the winter too. We are also
in desperate need of chairs,
especially folding ones.”
She is the mother of two grown
children and one teenage
daughter, Linette, who lives at
home. Vivian and her husband,
Kenneth, raise beef cattle on a 100
acre farm.
Ladies’ Lead Contest, sheep to
shawl demonstrations, sheep
shearing contest, colored sheep
and white sheep shows, a fleece
exhibit and sale, and working
sheep dog demonstrations.
There will also be commercial
and craft booths as well as lots of
good food.
