Magic De De may have surprised
some people Tuesday when she
was named the 1986 senior and
grand champion Holstein, but not
her owner Leroy Fiance.
When asked if he was surprised
at the outcome, he replied with a
modest grin, “No, I planned it that
way.” He went on to explain a
simple truth that backs his modest
statement, “I thought she was
good because every cow has a
bloom during the year and she was
blooming.”
Classified EX-90 she is the
product of the mating between
Eccles F Molly Magic and
Mayview Citain Dekol.
This cow comes from a herd that
knows about winning. Fiance once
sold a cow to Dream Street
Holsteins that went on to place as
grand champion at three national
shows.
Leroy Holsteins is run by Leroy
and his wife Ida Jane. Ida Jane
wasn’t able to attend this year’s
show as she was taking care of the
future champions at home in
Wellsboro. Plance described his
wife’s role as being very important
for their 21st trip to the farm show
next year.
Donald Hostetter returned to the
winner’s circle this year showing
the reserve grand champion,
Maplebound Ultimate Dove.
“Dove,” a seven year old, also won
the best udder class with an udder
that was described as “almost
perfect.”
Hostetter hopes to have her bred
back and in condition for a return
engagement next year.
Hostetter showed seven cows
this year and was well pleased with
every placing, especially con
sidering the high degree of com
petition found this year.
Hostetter commented on this,
stating “it seems to be a better
quality show this year then in some
years.”
The show also crowned Manor-
Grove B Melissa, a four year old
owned by John F. Stamy, IV, from
Mechanicsburg, as the grand
champion in the youth division.
Reserve grand champion of the
youth division went to John A.
Foster, 111, with Globe-Run Sexy
Darlene.
The junior champion of the open
show went to Robert Gitt, Lit
tlest Own, with his senior yearling,
Penn Skystar Dawn. Reserve
honors went to Bridgette Boyer of
York showing her senior yearling,
Sunnybend Jan.

from Mechanicsburg. In the
reserve position was Bridgette

nybend Kitkat.
Premier breeder went to Harvey
Stoltzfus. This is the fifth time he
has been awarded this distinction.
He attributes his success to using
good common sense when breeding
his cows.
His farm is a family affair. His
wife Mary Jane and four sons Don,
Dwight, Glen and Duane all work
on the farm, with the sons owning
some of the cows in the herd. When
choosing animals for the show, the
best go regardless of ownership. 4
Premier exhibitor went to
Rocky-Side Hosteins. This is the
first time they have received this
distinction.
Carl Yoder who is in partnership
with his father Jefferson Yoder,
states that this is something that
they have strived for in a sense. It
is the result of putting a good show
string together.
Ironically, in the farm show
building, the Stoltfus family is
across the aisle from the Yoder
family and at their homes in Berks
County, their farms are down the
road from each other.
Judging the Holstein show was
Lynn Miller from Towanda, Pa.,
where he raises Holsteins on the
Royal Haven Farm.
