HARRISBURG - The Farm
Show is rarely the show where
cows make their showring debut.
Yet, Wind Mill Mat Victoria did
just that, and with great success.
She was awarded the grand
champion and best udder placings
in a strong Brown Swiss show.
This cow is owned by Dean and
Brenda Daubert of Bernville. 1986
also marks the Daubert’s initial
Farm Show with their own herd
appropriately named Victory
Acres.
This two year-old cow comes
from a strong background with her

HARRISBURG James Young
and his Three Springs Farm,
Newville, captured virtually all the
Milking Shorthorn championships.
They were also named the shows
premier breeder and premier
exhibitor.
They originally had no intentions
of showing this year with the ex
ception of their children’s 4-H
projects. The Young’s had what
was to be a complete herd
dispersal in 1984.
However, the transactions on
several cows never materialized.
So, since the cows were on the
Youth Division Milking Shorthorn champions were Maggie
Whiting, left, with reserve grand champion, and Christine
Young at the halter of her grand champion. Elizabeth Heald
and judge Lynn Miller congratulate the winners.

champion position at the 1984 Farm
Show.
The Premier Exhibitor plaque
returned to the James Kennedy
family from Butler. This is the
third time since 1981 they have
gained this recognition. According
to James Kennedy’s wife Rita,
they have achieved this through
“hard work, better breeding and
maybe some luck.”
With James at home tending to
the farm it was up to Rita and the
youngest three of their five
children to tend to the champions.
Young family sweeps Milking Shorthorn Show
farm, they decided to show as
they’ve been doing since 1958.
Three Springs TFP Peggy, from
the aged cow class, walked to the
grand champion of the show
position. This cow also received
best udder honors. The reserve
grand champion of the breed was
the two year old, Three Springs BR
Lil.
Young also had the junior
champion, Oak Grove Texas Lynn,
from the intermediate yearling
class. The reserve position went to
Three Springs K.A. Peg, a junior
yearling.
Christine Young continued her
John Kennedy showed his three
year-old cow, Four Seasons Gen
Sunfire to the reserve grand
champion position. This cow was
also grand champion in the youth
division. John, 13, a veteran of 4-H
showing, stated his only problem
with showing this cow has been
trying to get her to keep her ears
forward.
Jason, 9, lead his junior yearling,
Four Seasons Radar Kara, to the
junior champion placing in both
the open and youth divisions.
Completing the champions for
the Kennedy clan was Janelle, 15,
with the junior reserve champion
in the youth division.
Another newcomer to the Farm
Show, Lisa Coleman, of Saltsburg,
placed in the reserve grand
champion position in the youth
division with her entry Circle C
Stretch Judy.
Rounding out the list of cham
pions is Meadow Hill G. Amaretta,
the reserve junior champion in the
open show. She is owned by Gary
Mase of Lebanon.
Mase was also named the the
premier breeder of the Brown
Swiss show. This is the first time
Gary has been honored with this
title. Gary acknowleged his love
for showing and considers it to be
an important aspect of the dairy
industry.
Judging the Brown Swiss show
was Dale Olver from Atlantic
Breeders. He serves as the
progeny evaluator for them.
The following are the top three
placings from each class in the
open and youth shows.
