    ‘Tempty’ captures

HARRISBURG - It was no
surprise when the veteran
showwoman, Mildred Seeds,
Downingtown, Chester County,
captured the Grand Championship
of the Jersey Show at the Penn
sylvania Farm Show this past
Tuesday.
Her 7-year-old entry, Milestone
Tempty, has seen many, many
championships. A twice-scored
“excellent” daughter of Advancer
Sleeping Milestone, Tempty boasts
records over 14,000 pounds of milk
and butterfat tests to 5.6%. She is
currently milking 68 pounds per
day.
“Tempty” comes from the 12-
head show herd that Seeds has
bred over the years to excell in
both production and type. The
Seeds’, “Top 0 Hill” breeding also
gained Seeds the Premier Breeder
honors at this edition of Penn
sylvania’s finest.
Although missing the Grand
Championship rosette, the Dennis
and Rebecca Hardy family, Rl,
Petersburg, Huntington County,
garnered the Reserve Grand
Championship and the Best Udder
Premier Exhibitors, Dennis and Rebecca Hardy and
Premier Breeder, Mildred Seeds, are presented their awards
by Jersey Princess, Carol Hobaugh.

It is the second Farm Show for
the Hardy’s and their children,
James, Jerome, and Janice.
“They’re very much involved,”
stated Rebecca Hardy about her
children and their 30-cow dairy
operation at home and their
showstring for the fairs and shows.
Practicing at five shows
throughout the year, including the
All American in Kentucky, the
Hardy’s took home the Premier
Exhibitor award from this Farm
Show.
Leading their showstring was
their championship cow, GR El
Prince Betty Dreamer. She boasts
records over 14,000 pounds milk.
The four year old bovine is a
daughter of Bettydon Quicksilver
Dreamer. The Reserve Grand
Champion, GR TK Saint Lilly, is a
three year old daughter of
Favorite Saint. Janice Hardy also
captured the Reserve Junior
Championship of the youth division
with TK ASM Bessy, a daughter of
Advancer Sleeping Milestone.

Dauphin County, “Maxine” is
jointly owned by the Alexander
brothers, Don and David, and
Rogelio Muyshondt of El Salvador.
She was just moved from Indiana
two weeks ago to the new
Alexander farm, A Grand View
Farm, in Middletown.
“We picked her out to be what
she is,” stated Don Alexander,
about the champion. The
Alexanders purchased “Maxine”
as a two year old in a private deal
with her breeder, C.E. Cotting, of
Massachusetts. From that point
on, this champion has made breed
history.
With records of 305 days, 23,699
milk, 6.7%, and 1597 fat, and a
record of 365 days, 26,089 milk,
6.7%, and 1737 fat, “Maxine” holds
the butterfat production record for
the breed. She has also proved her
type to be .'excellent” after being
named All American 2-year old in
1982; All American 3-year-old in
1983; Honorable Mention All
American 4-year-old in 1984; and
Grand Champion of the Eastern
and Central National Shows m
1985
It was in 1984 that she gained
worldwide notoriety at the World
Premier Sale in Madison, Wi.
Attracting the attention of her
current three-quarter interest
owner, Rogelio Muyshondt, El
Salvador, “Maxine” topped the
sale She sold for the record price
of $51.000 00, and cunentiv holds
the record for high selling female
Guernsey at auction.
This year marks the first time at
the Pennsylvania Farm Show for
the Alexanders and their
illustrious cow. Because of their
involvement in the successful
management of this six year old
daughter of Clovelly Top Hornet,
The judge stands with the Grand Champion and Reserve
Grand Champion of the Jersey Show in the youth division.

collecting 700 head of young
Guernseys for shipment to El
Salvador. “It all came about
because of her,” Don Alexander
stated about their cow.
The 4-year-old, Lebanon Valley
Fayvor Clover, owned by the
Robert Smith family, Rl, Annville,
Lebanon County, took the Reserve
Championship honors and Best
Udder of the show. The Smith
entry boasts records over 17,000
milk and 800 fat.
A daughter of Housleys Dari
Fayvor, the homebred entry led
the way for the Smith family to
take Premier Breeder honors
along with the Rutter family, and
also to capture Premier Exhibitor
Honors in the Guernsey Show.
Showing for over 30 years at the
Farm Show, the Rutter family of
York County, is accustomed to
trophies and ribbons. Their 80-cow
milking herd at home is almost
entirely homebred and their
showstring, boasting tvfo first

In the youth division of the
Guernsey show, the Snider siblings
took top honors. Brandon Snider
with his 2-year-old, Sniders Jeds
Goldie captured the championship.
His sister, Julie and her aged cow,
Sniders Fayvors Irate took the
reserve ribbons.
The Sniders, Rl, New En
terprise, Bedford County, also
captured the Junior Championship
of the open and youth 1 divisions,
leaving the reserve junior
championship in the open show to
Dale Smith, Rl, Annville, Lebanon
Valley Farms, and the reserve
junior championship of the youth
division to Jenelle Boyer, York
County.
