Two of the most important things she has learned in the swine program, she said, are sport smanship and showmanship. “No matter how good you are, you cannot always win,” she said. "One must learn to accept the ,1: t MilHtoburo (717)000-3841 results and make the most of what he or she has done.” Trostle was named the “Out standing 4-H Swine Award Win ner” of 1983 by the Pennsylvania Pork Producers Association. In 1984, she exhibited the champion spot market barrow and grand champion spotted sow at the York Interstate Fair. She took third place this year in the state pork group’s public speaking contest. In 1982, she was a member of her county’s meats team that won state honors and placed fifth in national competition. She said her project has taught her responsibility, which has come in “quite handy in the classroom, as well as with life’s everyday challenges.” Pork producers back Md. program ANNAPOLIS - Maryland pork producers have voted over whelmingly to continue their check-off program with 82% of those casting ballots in favor of the program. The rate of contribution will be changed as a result of the vote. Beginning January first, the assessment will be one-quarter of one-percent (.0025) which works out to 25 cents per hundred dollars of market hogs sold. Currently, the check-off assessment rate is 20 cents per market hog sold. Participation in the program is voluntary on the part of farmers who can request, in writing, that deductions covering animals they have sold be returned to them. Monies raised under the program are sent to the Maryland Pork Producers Association which shared funds with the National Pork Producers Council.
