Velsicol builds plant to manufacture pesticides
CHICAGO, IL - Plans for the
construction of a new multi
million-dollar manufacturing
facility in Beaumont, Texas, were
announced today by Arthur R.
Sigel, president and CEO of
Velsicol Chemical Corporation, a
worldwide manufacturer and
marketer of agricultural and
professional pest control products.
According to Sigel, the
significant investment in the new
facility is a part of the company’s
long term strategy for growth
through the commercial in
troduction of new products and
widening its scope of operations in
both domestic and international

Several new agricultural
pesticides designed to serve a
broad range of crop protection
needs are in various stages of
research and development at
VelsicoL Two of those products are
targeted for manufacture at the
new Beaumont facility in time for
commercial .introduction in 1987.
The multi-million-dollar plant is
designed for flexibility in order to
accommodate additional new
products in the years ahead, ac
cording to Sigel.

also be an industry model of em

Plans call for plant construction
to begin in early 1986, and be
completed next fall in time to
produce two new agricultural
herbicides, Probe 9 and
prodiamine, in market quantities
for the 1987 cropping season.
Velsicol’s existing Beaumont plant
is currently the site for the
production, packaging and
distribution of the company’s
Banvel® herbicide formulations.
Velsicol also operates
manufacturing plants in Bayport,
Texas, Chattanooga and Memphis,
Tennessee, Marshall, Illinois, Sao
Paulo, Brazil, and San Luis Potosi,
Mexico.
Probe® and prodiamine will be
highly significant additions to the
Velsicol agricultural product
line, affording “new geographic
and crop market opportunities for
Velsicol,” notes Sigel.

for control of broadleaf weeds and
grasses in cotton and onions, two
major markets in which Velsicol
does not currently participate.
Probe® is approved for use in
more than 20 nations and Velsicol
plans to expand the label to include
additional crops in the US as well
as eastern and western Europe,
the Far East, Latin America and
Australia.
Prodiamine is currently
registered under an Experimental
Use Permit (E.U.P.) granted by
the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency and the California
Department of Food and
Agriculture.
Under the terms of the E.U.P.
prodiamine is being evaluated
under the trade name of En
durance® herbicide in the non
bearing tree, nut and vine

French firm buys
Penick pesticides
LYNDHURST, NJ - Roussel-
UCLAF, the pioneer French
producer of pyrethroids, has
acquired the Penick Corporation
pesticides business. The new firm
will be known as Penick-Bio
UCLAF Corporation.
Further details about
organizational plans and changes
will be announced at a later date.

UCLAF, Penick Corporation will
concentrate its operations in the
