    NEWARK, Del. - Delaware 4-H
state winners attended National 4-
H Congress id Chicago this week.
Below is a list of those outstanding
teens from Delaware who were
selected to attend.
• Dan Simpson, a skilled carpenter
from Newark, won a national 4-H
scholarship with his wood science
project. The 15-year-old designed
and built a triple bed complex for
his two brothers and himself.
• Yvette Denise Argo, Milford,
won the 4-H food preservation
award. The 16-year-old spent 100
hours canning 12 varieties of
produce and freezing 250 pounds of
pork and 120 pounds of chicken.
• Jill Finkbiner of Greenwood won
her award for her project in soil
and plant science. The 17-year-old
spent more than 1,200 hours
working on a local produce farm.
• Candee Clifton of Bridgeville had
an award-winning state project in
home management. Label
reading, comparison shopping and
reviewing new products were all
part of her project.
• Russell Carlisle, Greenwood,
received his award in petroleum
with his small engines project.
Russell, 17, has his own lawn
mowing business.
• Dawn Bailey, Newark, won state
honors for her fashion revue. The
17-year-old has modeled her own
fashions in 11 shows and will model
before a national audience in
Chicago.
• Jeffrey Allen, Bridgeville, won
the state award in achievement.
The 16-year-old has nine years of 4-
H horse, dog and leadership
projects behind him.
• Robin Zareo, Harrington, won
the state safety award for project
work that included numerous
reports on food and home safety.

Delaware state winners attend National 4-H Congress

• Melissa Wilson, Greenwood, is
the winner of die state health
award. The 17-year-old’s project
included exhibits, demonstrations
and volunteer work in community
health drives.
• Belinda Schryver, Greenwood,
An abundance of talent won the Delaware 4-H food
preservation award for Yvette Denise Argo of Milford.

H’er, the 17-year-old has par
ticipated in more than 100 shows.
She has trained 28 horses.

winner. The 18-year-old won the

• Diana Bnmozzi, Wilmington,
won the state award for her breads
project. The 16-year-old spent 200
hours baking a variety of breads
for her family and church suppers.
• Moira McGuinness, Wilmington,
won the state award for her
photography project. As the 1985
New Castle County 4-H Day Camp
photographer, the 16-year-old
wrote, narrated and produced a
promotional slide-tape presen
tation on 4-H day camps.
• John Mitchell, Hockessin, won
the state award in agriculture for
projects that included raising
sheep, poultry and chrysan
themums.
• Kendra Vagle, Wilmington, won
the state clothing award. The 17-
year-old has participated in
clothing workshops, judging
events, demonstrations and
fashion revues.
• Brian Emerson, Middletown,
won top honors in leadership. The
18-year-old has choreographed and
directed numerous 4-H talent
presentations and taught per
forming arts at state 4-H camp.

• Nancy Skaggs of Clayton won her
top honors for public speaking. The
16-year-old has taught food classes
at 4-H day camps and has given
numerous speeches and demon
strations.
• Briden Reynolds won the state
citizenship award. The 15-year-old
volunteered to work on Wilmington
Mayor Dan Frawley’s election
campaign and has been a volun
teer at the Mary Campbell Center,
Home of Merciful Rest, A.I. Du
Pont Institute and the Graham
Center.
• Mary Elizabeth Schubert,
Wilmington, won top state honors
m foods and nutrition. The 16-year
old has prepared hundreds of
desserts, main dishes and
vegetable recipes.
