mMmtf \ CREAMERY - Ed Brzostek, District Conservationist, for the USDA, Soil Conservation Services (SCS), has been honored for his “Outstanding Service” in soil conservation to Montgomery County. Montgomery County Conservation District Chairman, Dr. Duane G. Clarke, cited Ed’s many achievements during his seven years in the county. When presenting the award, Clarke stated “the honor is well deserved and overdue”. As head of the SCS office in Creamery, Brzostek is kept busy. The office provides technical assistance on soil conservation to farmers, developers, and other landusers. He arrives at work early, and the phone starts ringing immediately. Ed tries to help everyone in spite of many other duties and responsibilities. According to Bill Steuteville, a co-worker, “Ed should leam to say no more often. Some problems could be passed to others, but he likes to help people if he can.” The people Ed likes most are farmers. The biggest part of his job is advising farmers on controlling erosion, filling gullies, and draining wet fields. Often it is hard convincing farmery that conservation is necessary. But he doesn’t let work keep him from fishing or spending time with his family; Rita, his wife, Jennifer and Eddie Jr., his children, which are Ed’s favorite pastimes.
