PENNSYLVANIA TOBACCO
GROWERS
SUGGESTIONS FOR STRIPPING 1985 CROP
The following practices for handling, stripping, and baling are
recommended:
1. Curine - Fully cure the tobacco
2. Case - Strip only tobacco in natural case, on dry side. Bales
containing excess moisture will be rejected.
3. Stripping - Bale separately all good quality tobacco. Remove all
trash, frozen, muddy, shed damaged, or fat stem (BALE
SEPARATELY.)
4. Baling - Make a good bale, lap tails or tips of leaf 8 to 10 inches.
There is no objection to short bales of good quality tobacco. Poorly
lapped or weak bales that break apart in the middle are not
accepted by the industry. Please use cotton twine and paper
on all Pennsylvania tobacco.
5. Baled tobacco should be stored in a dry, cool area until delivered.
Do NOT store in damp cellar.
6. Weights of bales should be 60 to 68 pounds
Protect tobacco with waterproof cover when making delivery to prevent
damage from rain or snow.
