Ida’s
Notebook

I’m sure you’ve all heard of
people who work best under
pressure. That seems to be my
case as I can find all kinds of small
jobs to keep me busy while post
poning big jobs.
Recently I finished my fall house
cleaning only because I was ex
pecting guests. When you try to see
your home through someone else’s
eves, you polish the silver, shine
the light globes and wash the
porch. Other times you can live

with a bit of dust and dirt.
When you know a hard frost is
coming, then the last tomatoes and
peppers are picked. The last vines
and flower plants are potted and
put on shelves in the house. Even
raking leaves can be delayed for a
few days. I’ve been told by some
men that if they waited long
enough, they thought the wind
would blow them all away.
However, that would not happen

If I am to lead our Bible study
group then I read and study in
order to do a good job. But, if
someone else will be teaching, then
I sometimes only glance over the
lesson.
Our son showed up, unex
pectedly, one morning at 6:30 a.m.
He had driven all night from his
home in Maine. He helped his
father for two days. While he was
home, I cooked up a storm and
served some of his favorite dishes
including parsnips.
I’m wondering if we go to extra
effort simply to impress other
people rather than to satisfy
ourselves. Although it is so easy to
.become too complacent and
merely let things slide. So, I
suppose we need pressure
sometimes to accomplish things.
