Market hog inventory, at 36.4 million head, is three percent below last year and nine percent less than Sep tember 1983. The June-August 1985 pig crop was 16.9 million head, one percent below the corresponding period last year and five percent below two years ago. There were 2.19 million sows that farrowed during June-August, down three percent from a year earlier and 10 percent less than the same period two years ago. Sows farrowing during June- August 1985 averaged 7.73 pigs per litter compared with 7.60 last year and 7.36 during the comparable period two years ago. Hog producers in the 10 quar terly states intend to farrow 2.27 million sows during September- November of this year. This is two percent fewer than during the comparable period in 1984 and five percent below the 1983 period. Farrowing intentions for the December 1985-February 1986 quarter are 1.93 million head, fractionally below a year earlier and two percent below the com parable period two years earlier. Soybean rates set by USDA WASHINGTON - Basic county loan and purchase rates for 1985- crop soybeans grading U.S. No. 2 or better have been issued by Everett Rank, administrator of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. Rank said the basic 1985-crop soybean rates are based on the national average loan and pur chase rate of $5.02 per bushel. An exception is made for foreign material. Changes in the area-to-area relationships, prices received by farmers, and trends in production and consumption, resulted in some adjustments, Rank said.
