PFA opposes House dairy plan CAMP HILL - The Penn sylvania Farmers’ Association (PFA) said today that it would oppose any federal farm program that forced dairymen to pay assessments for the cost of a dairy support program. That is the message Keith Eckel, PFA president, is sending to all congressmen from Pennsylvania. “We know that the best way to balance supply and demand is to make certain that dairy prices automatically reflect purchases made by the Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC),” the farm leader said. “Some people in the dairy in dustry are advocating diversion Mid-Atlantic dairy managers win ADA contest TOWSON, Md. - Seven Mid- Atlantic food store dairy managers were recently selected winners in the “Have A Dairy Good Summer” retail contest sponsored by the American Dairy Association (ADA) Dairy managers in three Safeway stores, two Giant Food stores, one Acme food store and one High’s Dairy Store were winners in the Mid-Atlantic The contest was part of ADA’s overall “Have A Dairy Good Summer” promotion which featured point-of-purchase ad vertising at the dairy case and ice cream freezer, six weeks of non brand television advertising, and a free standing insert of June 9th Sunday papers and milk carton side panels, plus a consumer photo contest. We also know that assessments are extremely un popular with dairymen. What’s needed in the dairy in dustry right now is a simplified dairy support program, basing price on CCC purchases,” Eckel remarked. He gave high marks to the Senate version of the farm bill because it accepted the concept of gearing price supports to the amount of CCC purchases. Eckel classified the House version as another complicated dairy support program that would contest are not yet available. To enter the retail contest, dairy managers simply had to agree to keep up the “Have A Dairy Good Summer” P.O.P. material from June 1 through the end of the promotion on July 15. PFA will be seeking amend ments in line with PFA policy, he said, to both bills now being con sidered that will (1) bring supplies „ down to demand levels, and (2) automatically adjust the support price level according to the amount of net dairy products purchased by the federal govern ment, and (3) eliminate all assessments against producers.
