Crawford BY BARBARA RADER Staff Correspondent NEW CASTLE Queens Manor Holsteins, owned by the Ed Doeberiener family, Jamestown, led the Crawford County Holstein breeders to the winners’ circle at last week’s Western Pennsylvania Championship Holstein Show. Doeberieners, together with Morrell Farms and Vel-Rus Farms, both of Cochranton, captured all the major awards in the championship show, held at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds. Six-year-old Leadfield Telstar Linda - ET won the grand cham pionship for the Queens Manor exhibitors. Showing her tremen dous size and frame, and fresh just three weeks, Linda earned first place with best udder in the aged cow class and then went on to be named senior and grand champion of the show. The Leadfield entry also earned the best-bred-and-owned award of the show. Ebe-Tide Mona Maria captured the reserve grand honors for Morrell Farms. She edged out the well-known C Gala Hill Kelly Ned- Red, a Queens Manor entry, in the five-year-old class, and then went on to earn the reserve senior and reserve grand championships. Maria also received the award for best udder of the show and led her stable-mates to a first-place win as best three females. Morrell Farms also showed the top senior yearling to the junior championship Mernllea Pete Marny is a September 1983, Straight-Pine Elevation Pete daughter. Holstein breeders triumph in Western Championship open competition. Her Spring- Lake-Vu-Commlady Camero, a junior yearling sired by Wauk-A- Way Fond Reliance, was named reserve junior champion in the open competition and junior champion among the junior exhibitors. The title of champion bull was awarded to Leadfield Priority - ET, a December 1983, Leadfield Columbus - ET son out of the grand champion cow. Paul and Sharon Fox, Rock wood, followed with the reserve champion bull, a junior yearling bom March 1984, and also sired by the Columbus bull. Queens Manor was named the premier exhibitor of the western championship show, while Vel-Rus Farms, operated by the Ernest Oakes family, received the premier breeder banner. Judge Ron Long, of Select Sires, Plain City, Ohio, commented that the show was superb, with good cows shown throughout the day. A count of 179 head passed before Long during the day’s show. In junior division competition, it was “like father, like son”. Justin Doeberiener led four-year-old Conrid Astrostar Lynn to the grand championship. The Leadfield Stardom - ET daughter was also a first-place winner in the open show and was second best pdder. The reserve grand championship was placed on five-year-old Vel- Rus Cairo Design Seven-Up, exhibited by Ernest Ray Oakes 11. Seven-Up is sired by Kanzabrook Matt Carlo and was bred by Oakes’ parents The junior championship went to Michele Freyermuth, and the second-place senior yearling in the open show took the reserve junior iow chairman Paul Lawrence awarded the premier breeder banner to Vel-Rus Farms.
