Slaughter steers and heifer
prices sharply higher this week
advances of 3.00-4 00 were
recorded on these classes. Good
buyer demand noted as some local
packers were in need of cattle each
day. Small receipts of the trading
days was a contributing factor
coupled with higher dressed beef
prices to turn live prices higher.
Heavy cattle less in evidence this
week, but a few pens were on offer
and these experienced advances
also. Slaughter cows 1.00 to mostly
2.00 highr, slaughter bulls steady.
Estimated 5 day receipts 4900,
actual receipts last week 6944, last
year 7862. Slaughter steers com
prised 48 pet of the weeks receipts,
heifers 34 pet, cows 14 pet, feeder
cattle 2 pet.

Steers turned more active and
stronger this week. Choice Steers
for the week 1.00-1.50, instances
2 00 higher with most advance on
yield grade 3 or better around 1100-
1250 lbs. Good grade Steers and
most Holsteins fully .50-1.00
higher. Slaughter Heifers fully
1.00, instances 1.50 higher on
Choice lots, mostly .50-1.00 higher
on good. Cow supply continued to
make up very small % of run at
about 3%. Cows and Bulls steady
but not well tested. Receipts this
week 1,500 salable cattle, a week
ago 1,776, and a year ago 2,344.
