WASHINGTON - The *U.S.
Department of Agriculture
proposes to amend the voluntary
U.S. standards for grade of fresh
tomatoes to bring them in line with
current sizing practices.
John J. Gardner, a marketing
official with USDA’s Agricultural
Marketing Service, said the action
has been proposed at the request of
the Florida Tomato Exchange and
the California Fresh Market
Tomato Advisory Board.

current generic size designations
would reduce the industry’s
present difficulty in meeting these
