MURPHY BRU-MASH:
around the world.
Secretariat delegates discuss
problems, and their potential
solutions, that are common to the
Angus industry worldwide. Special
emphasis is placed on facilitating
international Angus germ plasm
exchange. The group also attended
an informal reception with the
Queen Mother after her ap
pearance before the World Angus
Forum session on Thursday
morning, July 18.
Keynote speaker for the Forum
was Dr. Robert Long, professor of
animal science at Texas Tech
University in Lubbock. Long urged
the group to abandon many of the
traditional beef cattle selection
criteria and to concentrate on just
four factors when selecting beef
cattle. These he listed as:
1. Reproduction efficiency.
2. Growth rate per unit of feed
3. Carcass Composition-includi
ng not just lean but also juiciness,
tenderness and flavor.
4. Longevity.
