Penn State wins ice cream award PORTLAND, ME - Penn sylvania State University has receivd an agricultural teaching award recognizing the ice cream production course taught by the school’s department of food science. Through a combination of classroom study and hands-on experience, students learn the basics of formulation, production, packaging, storage and distribution of ice cream and related products. The $7,000 RJR/NASDA grant will be used to develop audiovisual materials for Penn State’s on campus and correspondence courses in ice cream production. In 1984, Penn State’s turfgrass management program earned regional and national RJR/NASDA awards in agricultural education. Any accredited institution of higher learning or state technical school with an agricultural curriculum is eligible to apply for one of the regional awards. R.J.
