Elizabeth Heald crowned Centre PLEASANT GAP - Elizabeth Amy Heald of Spring Mills was crowned 1985 Centre County dairy princess May 19 at the Logan Grange Hall, Pleasant Gap. She succeeds Judy Vonada, the 1984 dairy princess. Beth, the daughter of Judith and William Heald, was also the presentation winner of the evening. Her presentation cen tered around the differences between milk and other beverages. Beth has had much experience with the dairy promotion program. She was the alternate dairy princess in 1983 and is currently attending Penn State, majoring in dairy production and extension. A graduate of Penns Valley Area High School, Beth owns three Holstein heifers. She has shown dairy cattle for several years and Susan Nehrig selected Indiana Co. daily princess BY BARBARA RADER Staff Correspondent INDIANA Susan Nehrig was crowned the eleventh Indiana County dairy princess during pageant ceremonies at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Saturday, May 18. Susan, 16, is the daughter of Ed and Ginny Nehrig, Homer City. She was also selected Miss Congeniality by the other three contestants. A junior at Homer-Center High School, Susan plans to attend the Indiana University of Penn sylvania to major in nursing. The day before the pageant she was told she is a state Blue Form winner in health, qualifying her for National 4-H Congress this fall in Chicago. Susan is a Brown Swiss en thusiast and has added the breed to the family’s 450-acre dairy farm of Guernseys and Holsteins. She is a Brown Swiss junior member and belongs to three 4-H clubs, her school activities include Health Careers, French and Library Clubs as well as concert and marching band. Alternate princess honors went to Gladys Trimble, the 17-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas E. Tnmble, Indiana. Like the new princess, Gladys owns a Guernsey on her family’s 300-acre farm Of Holsteins and Guernseys. She is a 4-H’er in the Teens of Today Club and is news reporter for the Southern Dairy Club. A junior at Indiana Area Senior High School, Gladys is in the Girl’s Glee Club, History Club and the concert and marching oands. She plans to attend Penn State University to major m agriculture a has been active in the Centre County 4-H Dairy Club, the Penn State Dairy Science Club, and the Penn State Block and Bridle Club. Dora Kay Hettinger, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth R. Hettinger, Rebersburg, is the first alternate dairy princess for 1985. Her presentation included an original song and dance routine. The second alternate is Amy Nyman, the daughter of Claude and Ruth Nyman of Howard. She and bossie the cow encouraged teen-agers to drink milk. Annette Emel, the grand daughter of Mrs. Dorothy Neff of Howard, was selected Ms. Congeniality. As the Centre County dairy princess, Beth will appear at many events, including a number of “June is Dairy Month” activities and a mall promotion June 20 to 22. and science.
