annual search is on for young
women to compete in the 1985
Hunterdon County Dairy Princess
Contest.
The title sounds im
pressive. .and the responsibilities
assumed by the princess for the
year of her reign are significant.
She becomes Hunterdon County
dairy industry’s ambassador and
promoter of milk and dairy
products through a variety of
activities. She appears at milk
promotions in malls and super
markets across the state, speaks to
many school audiences, civic and
service clubs.
To be eligible to compete in the
Hunterdon Contest, you must be 17
to 24 years of age, single, and have
some dairy farm background. The
dairy experience, in addition to
living on a dairy farm, could be 4-H
dairy club involvement, working
on a dairy farm, or some other
exposure to dairy cows and far
ming.

12, and concludes at 4 p.m. Sunday,
July 14.
Lab sessions from which young
people may choose during the
weekend include the following
Milking procedure, arc welding,
oxy-acetylene cutting, hay- tool
fundamentals (I and II), tractor
operation, swine breeding, dairy
nettle hreedme nest control, dairv
dairy princess contestants needed
Judging is based on a number of
qualities, including appearance,
personality, ability to speak in
public, knowledge of dairy far
ming, milk and dairy products.
In the contest a winner and
runner-up are chosen. Both will
compete in the state contest, which
is held during Flemington Fair.
The Hunterdon contest is
scheduled for Sunday, June 9,
during Dairy Farm Open House on
the Ernest Kuster farm Raritan

1 conditions, Pennsylvania’s 1985
production of winter wheat is
expected to be above 1984 levels,
according to the Pennsylvania
Crop and Livestock Reporting
Service
Acreage to be harvested is
forecast at 215,000 with a yield of 39
bushels per acre. The resulting
production at 8,385,000 bushels is
fractionally above the 1984 level of
8,360,000 bushels.
Total 1984 tobacco production for
Pennsylvania was 22,370,000
pounds. Southern Maryland, Type
32, acres harvested were 4,300,
with an average yield per acre of
1,800 pounds and production of

26.86 million tons, 33 percent above
that stored on May 1,1984.
