    Thomasville auction
Thomasville business. The family
maintains its own retail
establishment in Gettysburg, the
Weikert Meat Market, Inc.,
managed by daughter Roberta.
A large crowd turned out for the
nostalgic last sale, packing the
arena to standing room only and
jamming the sprawling parking
lot.
On hand to help keep this final
auction running smoothly were a
number of the 25 farmer
stockholders who cooperatively
purchased the establishment in
1975. Current president Charles
Sunday, York, remininsced about
having attended the auction “as a
kid”, as he congratulated the new
owner of the facility surrounded by
Robert Weikert, right, accepts congratulations and best
wishes for his private livestock' buying business from
Thomasville Auction’s president Charles Sunday.

Thomasville Auction opened in
1947, by ag entrepreneurs Peter
and Earl Koons of Harrisburg, and
William Peters, Millersburg.
A fire totally destroyed the
facility in 1980. It was then
modernized and rebuilt by the
farmer-owners group. The auction
has been a frequent host to 4-H
livestock events, including the
annual York-Adams beef and
sheep roundups.
