Landfill borrows a page from agriculture
CREAMERY - The Boyertown
Sanitary Disposal Company
borrowed a new agricultural
conservation concept to protect the
soil on its Gilbertsville landfill site.
Roger Krout, Operations Manager
of the landfill site, sought to help of
local farmer Ernest Long and the
Montgomery County Conservation
District to no-till the exposed
slopes on the fill.
'Dry weather last fall caused
York feed grain acres due June 15
YORK - The final date for York
County feed grain/wheat farmers
to report 1985 crop acreages for
small grains is June 15. July 15, is
the final date to report corn and
gram sorghum. Note that these
dates are also the final disposition
dates for these crops.

"We generally work with far
mers,” says Steuteville, “but we
were happy to assist in stabilizing
the soil on the landfill. This is a
critical area because of the
steepness of the slopes. The
agricultural principles are the
same.”
Ernest Ixing used his tractor to
do the planting.
Adds Steuteville, "I’m glad
Ernie did the driving, I would have
been very nervous on those
slopes.'”
The Montgomery County Con
servation District has no-till corn
planters as well as drills available
