Mars-Tony daughters top

HARRISBURG - A buyer’s
market prevailed at the recent
Holstein State Calf Sale at the
Farm Show Complex. More than
190 animals were offered to
Holstein breeders from across the
state at an average price of $1063,
down slightly from last year’s calf
saleaverage.
Topping the sale was a $3600
Mars-Tony daughter, Globe-Run E
Tony Betty-ET, consigned by John
Foster, Jr. and Hams Brothers,
Petersburg. Out of FSA-Legacy
Beautys Best, the 8-month-old calf
went back to Petersburg in care of
the Betty Syndicate.
The Best cow is scored VG-87
and has a 3 years and 9 month milk
record of 25,190 pounds milk and
1061 pounds fat with 4.2 percent
test in 365 days. Best boasts a
+493M and +slo3 index.
Betty’s 2E-GMD granddam,
Our-Own Ivan Star Beauty, topped
out, at 5 years and 10 months, at
31,251 pounds milk and 1264 pounds
fat at 4.0 percent test.
The Betty calf was one of four
calves to bring $3OOO or more. The
second high seller was also a Mars-
Tony daughter, while the third and
fourth high sellers were by Valiant
and Ijon
Allen Johnson, of Hamponville,
N.C., purchased Joell-Haven Mars
Jen-ET for a bid of $3300. Con

production record of 27,125 pounds

Berkley, Berkhne Valiant Cindy-
ET brought the third highest price
of the sale. Helen Knepper, of
Berlin, purchased the 9-month-old
calf for a bid of $3200.
Cindy-ET is out of Berkhne Rora
Prestige Connie. Scored Ex-90,
Connie is a show winner with a
production record of 27,202 pounds
milk, 1027 fat.
Selling for $3OOO was an
Oakenbound-W Chief Fern-ET
daughter by Sterk R A Ijon. At 3
years and 4 months the VG-86 Fern
cow produced 27,539 pounds of 4.5
milk and 1227 pounds fat. She has a
+B6IM, +slss index.
The Fem daughter was also
purchased by Allen Johnson,
Hamponville, N.C.
The sale average on 195 head
was $1063, with a total sale volume
of $166,850. The prices were down
slightly from last year’s state calf
