leader for the Wellsville 4-H
community club.
A special plaque of recognition
was awarded to club leader Walter
Keeney, York RB. Keeney was
saluted for his 30 years of service
to the county’s 4-H program. He
has assisted with numerous events
and activities, works with the
steers at the Farm Show, and now
serves many volunteer hours
helping to maintain the 4-H center,
where he is a member of the board
of directors.
Eight beef club members won
roll call awards for their oral
presentations at monthly meetings
on beef project management.
Recipients of the overall club
awards, sponsored by Service
Feed and Supply Company, were
Krista Rankin, first place, Cathy
Shive, second, Susan Eisenhour,
third, John Myers, fourth and
Chris Shive, fifth.
First year members who are
eleven years old or younger qualify
for a special “rookie” roll call
honor. Rookie awards are spon
sored by beef leader Terry
Shearer, Abbottstown, and went to
first-place winner Tiffany Carrol,
David Myers, second, and Keith
Grubb, third.
Also honored during the awards
program were members and
coaches of the county’s meats and
identification team, which took
first place at state competition.
Team members were Heidi Dietz,
Lisa Hoover, James Townsend and
Ellen Bentzel.
