state’s county extension agents. In the survey, conducted by
Stauffer Chemical Company, agents rated fall panicum the
worst weed in terms of difficulty to control, acreage and
economic damage. The company recommends a preplant
incorporated (PPI) herbicide, such as Sutan+ or Sutazine+,
for the most dependable control of this annual grass in corn.
A single fall panicum plant typically produces a half-million
seeds. Among the 17 corn-producing states surveyed, only
foxtails infest more acreage overall than fall panicum.
