D4-LMCMt«r Farming Saturday December t, 1984 Simmental Assoc, announces convention schedule BOZEMAN, Mont. - The American Simmental Association’s 17th Annual Meeting and convention, scheduled for Denver, Colorado, January 14-17, will be highlighted by a number of notable events. Included on the schedule is an “Educational Forum” which will be presented by a panel of several individuals who were prominent in the formative stages of the American Simmental Association. Other events include the honoring of Don Vaniman, former executive secretary of the Association; and National Sale 11, a joint effort by ASA and the Colorado Simmental Association. The educational program features a panel of speakers that will discuss “The Past, Present, and Future of the Simmental Breed”. It is designed to review the introduction and growth of Simmental in the U.S. and to provide a base upon which to formulate the breed’s future. Palmer II of Charlottesville, Va., has been selected by the American Polled Hereford Association (APHA) board of directors for induction into the Polled Hereford Hall of Fame. His bronzed hat will be hung in the AFHA Hall of Fame in Kansas City, Mo., as a fitting tribute to his outstanding contributions to the breed’s progress. The official induction ceremonies will take place during the 62nd National Polled Hereford Convention-Show- Sale in Fort Worth, Texas, Jan. 23- Itf OJ Since buying his first Polled Hereford bull in 1946, Palmer has been a strong supporter of both the Polled Hereford breed and the entire beef cattle industry. Palmer made his first Polled Hereford purchase for Eiverdale Farms following an intensive search for “just the right animal.” After serving as a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War 11, Palmer returned to Virginia and pur chased a Choice Domino 39 son to use on his Hereford cow herd. He has been working with APHA’s Guide Lines program since its inception. He has also been highly influential in the Virginia Beef Cattle Im provement Association and has served as their president. In 1981, the Virginia BCIA selected Palmer as their Seedstock Producer of the Year. He has also served as president of the Eastern Polled Hereford Association (PHA), and as a director on the state fair board, the Virginia Cattlemen’s Association and the Virginia Hereford Association. The Virginia PHA selected Palmer as the recipient of the John H. Royer Service to the Polled Hereford breed award in 1980. In 1972, Palmer was elected to the American Polled Hereford Association Board of Directors, and in 1973-74 he served as the Chairman of the Board. In addition to operating Riverdale Farms since 1950, Palmer has been president of Piedmont Tractor Company Inc., a retailer of John Deere farm and industrial equipment.
