YORK - The Lynn Wolf family’s
Gerrilynn Farms, Abbottstown,
made a clean sweep of all the top
places in York County’s DHIA for
1983, taking first awards in milk
production, butterfat and protein
categories.
Wolfs 70 head of registered
Holsteins finished the 1984 testing
year with a herd production
average of 20,392 milk, 778 fat, and
678 pounds protein.
Award' presentations for ac
complishments by county
dairymen on DHIA testing were
made during the group’s annual
banquet, held Tuesday evening at
Wisehaven Hall.
High 305-day lactation awards
for milk and fat production were
split between two of the county’s
top herds. Smyser’s Richlawn
Farms, York, earned the high 305-
day milk award with a lactation on
their Vicki cow of 30,204 milk. High
fat producer in 306-days was
Flowers, from the Stump Acres
herd at York New Salem, with
1,216 pounds.
Lifetime awards went to Wayne
Myers of Dover, and Earl Fuhr
man of Hanover. Myer’s Jenny
topped all other county producers
in her lifetime record this year
with a total of 227,327 of milk, while
Fuhrman’s Vicki totaled a lifetime
butterfat record of 9,142 pounds
fat.
The Rodman Thompson family’s
Coredale farm, East Berlin,
earned recognition for achieving
the largest herd average increase
in the over-550-pound butterfat
category. Thompson’s 70 cows
jumped 90 pounds of butterfat over
their 1983 record to finish with 655
pounds butterfat. Awarded the
honor of highest increase of but
terfat between 400 and 550 pounds
was the Elvin Deiter herd,
registering an increase of 83
pounds.
Eight farms scored increases of
over 50 pounds butterfat
production in the over 550-pound
butterfat category. They are:
Hodman Thompson, 90 pounds;
Mcßal Dairy, 66 pounds; Mervin
Hertzler, 59 pounds; Sinking
Springs, 57 pounds; Phil Laugh
man, 55 pounds; Thomas Boyer, 54
pounds; Daryl Bair, 54 pounds;
and Double D Farm, 51 pounds.
In the 400-550 butterfat category,

A total of nine county herds
earned recognition for butterfat
production over the 700-pound
mark. Finishing above the 700-fat
level are: Lynn Wolf, 778 pounds;
H.S. & R.E. Fetrow, 763 pounds;
Stump Acres; 759 pounds; Thomas
Boyer, 745 pounds; Smysers’
Richlawn Farms, 743 pounds;
Mcßal Dairy, 734 pounds; Sinking
Springs, 725 pounds; Leonard
Creek, 706 pounds; and Beshore
