commercial producers.
If they really want grease, grub
and grime for testing, producers
oughta’ load up their cameras,
cartons of Brand X, Y or Z, and
head for the nearest farm.
Picture it. Into the commercial,
through the back door, comes a
farmer who has just finished
changing a tire, from a loaded
manure wagon, in a field already
liberally coated with the aromatic
contents of a 6 months-storage pit.
Have you ever seen a laundry
commercial housewife gingerly
grasp a pair of gooey, blackish
jeans between two fingers, holding
her nose with the other hand, and
cart the item in question out to the
bam to initially rinse the whole
mess with the milk house pressure
pump?
Of course you haven’t. TV
audiences will only stand for just
so much gore and violence.
Or what about the teenage son
who glories in tractor grease and
finds peer worship based on the
size and number of indelible black
spots on white clothing, to be there
until the garment's entemal rest.
In our experience, no brand-name
powder or liquid can emerge
victorious from this battle. Only
battery acid has much effect on
such permanent colorations, a
pretty extreme solution unless
you’re into ventilated ready-to
wear.
A recent chase to corral an
about-to-deliver cow brought to the
basement floor yet another
washday challenge. With her own
plans about where this delivery
would occur, the old cow headed to
the depths of the meadow’s
swampland thicket. In the midst of
this jungle, lush and jagged, grows
a vigorous volunteer stand of the
weeds which in fall yield those
stick-to-clothing seeds we called
“beggar lice” when I ws a kid.
By the time he had convinced the
cow that the thicket was not, and
would not become, a maternity
pen, the farmer was decorated,

You cannot shake these things.
Nor can you sweep them off, or
vacuum them away. Washing
them only leaves sticky, jaggy
remants in other garments. They
wiU"not rot, and outlast clothing
hidden away in such hopes.
We finally found a solution to the
unwelcome, parasitic seeds. Wet
down the flannel shirt and denim
fabrics, then vigorously brush the
wet fabric back and forth with a
wire brush.
True, it was rather hard on the
fabric.
But it sure raised the nap on
what was left.
If brands X, Y and Z have a
better way, I’d sure like to hear
about it.

tension Service will be held Dec. 6
at 7 p.m. at the United Chruch of
Christ Educational Building,
Ebensburg.
“A Christmas Walk” will be this
year’s theme. Let us be your guide
on a tour through the greenery and
pines exhibit. Walk a little further
along the path and smell the aroma
from the kitchen comer, hear the
special instructions for easy crafts
and put a twinkle in your eye at the
kids comer. Refreshments will be
served.
Treat yourself to a new recipe by
bringing a favorite Christmas
recipe on a 3x5 card to exchange.
