distribution system that will
automatically fill up to 32 bins
when feed gets low has been an
nounced by Weigh-Tronix, Inc.
The system can be operated
manually or, when used with a
Weigh-Tronix SFM feed mixer,
will automatically keep each
storage bin full with the specific
ration called for. It is done by level
switches in each bin that signal
when the feed level is getting low.
The signal is sent to a controller
which starts the feed mixer
grinding the proper ration for the
bin. After the ration is emptied into
the surge tank, the controller
starts the blower, sets the remote
controlled valves and sends the
feed through the lines and into the
bins at speeds up to 60 miles an

DENTON, Md. The Maryland-
Delaware Forage Council has
scheduled its second annual winter
meeting for Dec. 11 at the Caroline
County 4-H Park in Denton, Md.
The program will cover a wide
range of information of interest to
anyone producing forages. Doors
will open at 9 a.m. for a visit to
exhibits.
University of Delaware ex
tension county agent Dean Belt
says the program was developed
with a lot of input from farmers
and fieldmen, and reflects needs
identified through requests from
producers, or problems en
countered in the field. The
following topics will be covered:
•Ammonia Treated Forage-
Using ammonia to treat low
quality forages, and their use in a
feeding program.
•Animal Health Problems
Related to Forages-Situations
faced each year involving nitrates,
prussic acid, fescue toxicity and
grass tetany.
•Brassica-Presentation by Dr.
Gerald Jung from the U.S.

Distribution line pressure is
constantly monitored and the
pressure automatically regulated
to control clogging. All valves are
interlocked so feed cannot be sent

phase of single phase and is
warranted for one year. It is
constructed so that is can be used
above ground or easily used in
lower cost, underground in
stallations.

purchased from local county ex
tension offices until December 6. A
limited number of tickets will also
be available at the door.
The meeting is being sponsored
jointly by the Maryland-Delaware
Forage Council and Cooperative
Extension services of Maryland
and Delaware. The planners say
interest in forages is running
strong. Last year’s meeting was
very successful and they predict
another good turnout.
