A USDA official said the firm agreed to the order to settle charges it failed to pay promptly for livestock bought at public markets in the Shenandoah Valiev $38,000 is Louisville, Ky.-A $38,000 Shorthorn heifer calf consigned by Buchholz Bros. Shorthorns,, Bardwell, Tx., topped all entries in the Second Annual North American Shorthorn Heifer Calf Futurity Sale held at New Market Hall on the Kentucky Fair & Ex position Center grounds, Louisville, Ky. The event was held on Sunday, November 11, 1984 in conjunction with this year’s North American International Livestock Exposition, and the 1984 World Shorthorn Conference & Show. The Buchholz-bred female was BBS Miss Irish G Uno, a daughter of Hilltop 538 Lancer 9120 x, and Miss Irish G, a female recently retired from a successful stint on the national show circuit. The entry was born March 2,1984, and on the day of the sale stood 50 in ches tall at the hips. The buyer of this popular lot was 3W Shor thorns, Paul C. Wharton & Sons, of Arlington, Tx. This female, a junior heifer calf, is a daughter of Mill Brook Printer 105 x. Buyer of the lot was David Welch, Lincoln, 11. The second $lO,OOO female sold was N’Land HH Cherry, a March ‘B4 heifer calf consigned by N’Land Shorthorns, Frankfort, In. Her sire is Highfield Highler 202nd. Buying the one-half interest offered in the female was Mike Johnson, Manor, Tx. Auctioneer Mike Brooks of Okla., averaged $5,822 -for the 22 females sold, for a sale total of $116,450. I * filed by USDA in July under authority of the Packers and Stockyards Act. The cease and desist order, similar to a permanent injunction, was issued to insure future com pliance with the P&S Act. The P&S Act is an antitrust, fair trade practice and payment protection law.
