Lewis sweeps Roundup

MANHEIM The thermometer
may have been hovering near the
teens last Friday night at the
Manheim Fairgrounds, but Ellen
Lewis was one teen who was too
hot to stop at Lancaster County’s 4-
H Sheep Roundup.
Lewis led
Ellen Lewis proved unbeatable at this year's Lancaster
County 4-H Sheep Roundup. Her Hampshire ewe (left) was
named supreme champion over all breeds, and her Hamp
market lamb was crowned grand champion in the market
lamb show.

victory, and went on to be named
supreme champion over the entire
breeding show.

once again gave Lewis the nod for
grand champion honors. Miss
Lewis’ 116-pound entry was also a
purebred Hampshire, bred and
raised on the Lewis’ Mount Joy
farm.
Now in her fifth year of 4-H sheep
competition, the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. George Lewis added
Friday's honors to a reserve
champion win in the sale lamb
class at this year’s Elizabethtown
Fair, and grand champion sale
lamb honors at the Manheim Farm
Show.
Hampshires continued to be the
winning breed when Tricia Musser
of Elizabethtown took reserve
champion honors with her 117-
pound wether named Arthur. The
placing was a pleasant surprise to
Miss Musser who pointed out that
judge Leib had named one of her
lambs to the same position in 1982’s
roundup.
A veteran of seven years in 4-H
competition, Miss Musser had
shown Arthur to class wins in both
the Elizbethtown Fair and
Manheim Farm Show. The
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold
Musser, Tricia will be exhibiting a
Suffolk market lamb in the up
coming Farm Show.
Also representing Lancaster
County in the Farm Show’s
market lamb competition will be:
Tim Engle and Curt Engle,
Manheim; Phil and Pam Yeagley,
Elizabethtown; Tricia Sadd,
Manheim; Deb Martin,
Conestoga; Carey Donches,
Manheim; and Lisa Sadler,
Elizabethtown.
The show’s market lambs were
offered for sale the following af
ternoon, Nov. 17, during the
Southeast District 4-H Beef and
Lamb Sale held at the New Holland
Sales Stables. Engle Business
Equipment, of Elizabethtown, was
the top bidder for the grand
champion lamb, at $4 per pound.
The lamb was then donated back to
the sheep club.

bid of $4 per pound for Lewis’ champion market lamb at the
District 4-H Beef and Sheep Sale on Nov. 17.
